Our third release on DiN Records (DiN95) explores the volatile creative partnership between legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog and actor Klaus Kinski through five cinematic soundscapes.
Following Télégraphe (DiN58) and 1984 (DiN75), we've expanded our sonic palette beyond our modular synthesis foundations. While our systems remain at the core, they now interweave with elements of prog, techno, rock, and field recordings to create ambitious, genre-bending compositions.
These five tracks draw from Herzog and Kinski's collaborations between 1972 and 1987. Rather than scoring the films, we've sought to inhabit their psychological territories: the fevered conquistador descending into megalomania (Aguirre, the Wrath of God); Woyzeck ground to dust by institutional cruelty; Fitzcarraldo's monumental folly—complete with a sample from a 1911 opera on Impossible Monolith; Nosferatu's ancient weariness; and the slave trader's trajectory through exploitation and dissolution (Cobra Verde).
HERZOG represents our most cinematic work to date, where narrative and atmosphere drive the music as much as synthesis and rhythm.
